My career working with children and youth has spanned 20 years. The first decade I enjoyed being a classroom teacher from kindergarten to grade 7 in the lower mainland, where I worked within high ELL and Refugee communities. I then completed my Masters in Counselling in 2013 and moved into the area of School Counselling. My therapeutic approaches focus on sandtray therapy, play-based therapy, animal assisted therapy and nature-oriented healing. I strive to create a treatment plan and goals that are as individually unique as we all are. I currently still hold my role as a school counsellor in SD 62 (Sooke) and work closely with teachers and parents as I find a community and family systems approach to be the most effective. My skills in helping parents navigate the school system while advocating for their child’s emotional needs is a strength of mine.
Although I have extensive education and training as a therapist, I would consider my lived experience as a mother to 4 amazing kids (ranging in age from 17 to 3) to be my richest asset in assisting others on their healing path. Parenthood is an intense experience and I strive to empower families to connect and support each other as deeply as possible.
